Position Synopsis:
This position is for a Windows Backup Administrator in the Client and Operational Services (COS) organization, part of the Information Services Office. The staff member will have responsibility for performing backups and recoveries in a Windows systems administration functions for the Windows 2003/2008 Server environment.
Responsibilities
§ Windows System Backup Administration - 70%
o Perform basic Windows SA duties:
§ Backups and restores for servers and enterprise systems
§ Troubleshoot system and network problems related to backups and restores
§ Performance monitoring of backups
§ Install and maintain Windows operating systems and applications
§ Active Directory administration
§ Apply patches and maintain prudent cyber security
o Be a part of an on call rotation for after-hours support
§ Technical Consulting - 15%
o Consult with staff to understand their IT requirements and recommend solutions
o Partner with IS staff to evaluate new backup technologies
o Work with staff, contractors and vendors to resolve complex system and network integration issues
§ Project Management - 10%
o Participate in a change management process to plan and manage the installation of new systems, upgrades to existing systems and enhancements to the IT infrastructure
§ Documentation - 5%
o Perform timely documentation for all infrastructure backup systems, networks and applications software
Requirements
> 5 years experience (minimum) in Windows Server system administration including Windows Server 2003/2008.
>Backup experience in a Microsoft Active Directory environment.
> Strong Windows Server skills including architecture, implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting
> Skilled knowledge and understanding of Windows Server environment, including standard services, protocols, and applications
> Practiced knowledge of Windows system/network performance issues and solutions
> Practiced knowledge of Exchange 2003/2007 and VMware ESX
> Ability to plan, document, install and effectively implement complex server software across heterogeneous server and networking environments
> Proven track record with projects and deploying new technology
> Good writing and documentation skills
> Must possess good communication skills
> Must be able to work in a professional manner on a directed team
Preferred Skills
> Experience with Microsoft Data Protection Manager
> Experience with Microsoft Office Sharepoint Services 2007
> Experience with Microsoft Unified Communications deployment and architecture
> Scripting skills (Wise, VBS, Powershell ...)
> Knowledge of RSA, Blackberry Enterprise Server, SQL, MS Systems Center Operations Manager, Microsoft Forefront, DFS, Thin clients, Citrix
> Background in HP servers and iSCSI storage
> Linux skills
